Recently, a British startup that distributed Stable Diffusion, an AI tool that turns it into an image when you enter text, is reportedly negotiating to attract investment at a ransom of KRW 1 trillion.

Forbes, a U.S. business magazine, reported on the 8th, “Stability AI is discussing investment with Lightspeed Venture Partners, a venture capital,” citing officials that Stability AI’s corporate value amounts to $1 billion (about 1.37 trillion won).(Related article) In fact, it is known that another investment company, Coatu, is currently evaluating the corporate value of Stability AI at around 500 million dollars (about 685 billion won).

Stability AI previously attracted $10 million (about 137 billion won) as a financial product called SAFE Note, a type of convertible securities, and its corporate value was valued at $100 million at the time. As it gained fame through free distribution of image-generating AI, its corporate value soared 5 to 10 times.

The image-generating AI tool called Stable Diffusion has gained sensational popularity since it was released as an open source last month. It is evaluated that its performance and quality are better than Dali 2 and Mid-Journey, which are image generation AI tools released earlier. However, the technology, which was released in accordance with the purpose of open source to anyone, has caused bad results, such as being used to make pornographic photos, and is also embroiled in controversy.
